What Are Stop Log Hoists?

Stop logs are long, rectangular beams or boards used in floodgates to regulate water levels and flow and provide access or isolation through a conduit. They are also frequently employed to temporarily block water flow through a canal or spillway for routine maintenance operations. 

For these hydraulic engineering control elements to perform their intended function, they must be placed on top of each other in the preconstructed slots within the gate or channel structure. Additionally, the modular nature of stop logs enhances a gate operator’s ability to control the water level and flow as individual pieces can be added or removed to adjust the channel’s capacities. These installation and removal processes are not manual. Instead, they require the use of hydraulic stop log lifters and hoists.
